"And ye shall seek me and find me, when ye search for me with all your heart." Jer. 29:13

Find God. The goal in life is to find God, not once, but every day. We are born lost. We are all born outside the garden. It is our job to find our way back home. Sad are those who are satisfied with where they are. The truth is, as long as we are in this world, we are not home yet. Now I am not talking about heaven. I am not talking about the "sweet bye and bye" sung about by those who think they found the truth. I am talking about the journey, the journey home. The moment a person thinks they found it, they are likely to lose it, to stop; and we can’t stop.

Jesus said "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life." None of these things are solid, stagnant, or freeze framed. They are all moving, pulsing, and living things. No one has the truth any more than learning a couple of axioms in geometry class makes you a math genius. After basic arithmetic, comes algebra I and then algebra II, and then geometry, calculus and so on. I am afraid that many who claim to have "found" the truth have camped out in kindergarten. Meeting the Teacher is a long way from getting your PhD.

I am afraid that much of what passes for Christianity today is just children fussing and playing in pre-school. Many having found "it" are afraid to be promoted. Many are happy with the swings and sliding ponds, or jump ropes of a specific school or denomination. The religious authorities were upset with Jesus because when they "piped" He did not dance. He was not interested in playing their religious games. The Pharisees thought they found it and had it. They had arrived. Jesus said our righteousness must exceed theirs, and that did not mean making more rules, or discovering the right rule. The Scribe and the Pharisee were experts in the Word and the Law. One was an expert in writing it, and the other was an expert in enforcing it. Jesus calls our attention to the spirit of the Word, because the Word is a living thing.

Our mission, goal and purpose in life is to find God every day both in the word and in the world. He can only be found by those who search for Him with all their heart. This cannot be done by good scribal or religious penmanship, it can only be done in spirit.

We must find Him in His written Word. We must meet with Him, worship Him and learn of and from Him. We must find Him (or His angel or attendant or messenger) in among the multitude of our crowded life. Finding someone among the thirsty, or lonely, or afraid, or sick is our assignment for the day. Since we cannot be sure which one is the One who might one day say, "I was thirsty and ye gave me not to drink," we give to as many as we can as if we were giving to Him, and treat everyone with kindness, care, compassion and respect.

"Ye shall seek me…." The only search engine that will work for this assignment is a humble heart.  Jesus said "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."  Nothing less will work.  The Omnipresent is in the present, and our job is to find Him and His will every day and in every circumstance.  He is here, He is there, He is near, as we shall see when  we would only search for Him with all our heart.
